Cielo Norte is an specialized tourism operator in doing adventure excursions and of special interresting in the great north of Chile. More than an adventure tourism brand, Cielo Norte is the consolidation of a man with a trajectotry of 35 years experience in adventure sports.

Enrique Valdes (Caco) starts in the mountaining in the 1970, at 14 years ald, been part of the Wechupun Andinism Club that means "get to the top" in mapudungun language. Here, he participated in an uninterrupted way for 12 years, gaining several peaks through the country as Pomerape volcano, Licancabur, Llullaillaco, Ojos del Salado, Tórtolas, Tupungato, San José de Maipo and Monte Aconcagua. Also he did with success foreign expeditions as Huayna Potosí and Illimani peaks in Bolivia, Husacarán in Perú and Pico Aneto in Spain.

In 1978 he entry to the Cuerpo de Socorro Andino that with time he become Patrol Chief, technical director and honorary membership. In 1980 he become instructor of the Escuela Nacional de Montaña. In 1983 he had been part of the first chilean expedition to the Everest Mount in the national team.

The beginning of this elite sportman in the tourism are circunstancial. Without thinking off he started to work as high mountain guide for foreigners.


Like this, he realized that he could live of his passion, so in 1985 at Pucón he founded Sol y Nieve, an agency that is pionner in adventure tourism in the region that also doing mountaining, specialist in rafting at Bio Bio river and Futaleufú.

In 1995 he visited San Pedro de Atacama with the intention to open a branch of Sol y Nieve, nevertheless because of the few touristic flow, he decided to go with the idea to coming back in the future.

Finally, in the 2004 year, he opened his agency in San Pedro de Atacama, a place that always captived him because of the excelent climate for doing mountaining. Like this born Cielo Norte, an specialist enterprise in doing expeditions to the peaks more important of the great north of Chile.
